I have them mounted as side surrounds on the walls. I used a 3rd party mount system and it is doable.

can they be used as atmos?
A shopper
on Mar 30, 2024
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but you should mount them up high and pointing towards you or have them on stands facing up. If you have them on stands facing up, you'll need to put at least 1/2 inch spacers between the back of the speaker and the stand so that the port can breathe.

My AVR puts out 120 watts into 8 ohms. At 4 ohms, and with an 84db sensitivity, will these tax my receiver? What do the speakers impedance dip to?
A shopper
on Nov 6, 2025
BEST ANSWER: Hi, thank you for your inquiry. Yes, it is possible to happen especially at moderate to high volume levels. An AVR that puts out 120 watts 8 ohms will output significantly more power into a 4ohm load. This increased power demand is the first sign of a potential issue. I hope this helps.

What’s the main difference between the B4 and B5?
A shopper
on Nov 30, 2025
BEST ANSWER: Hi, thank you for your inquiry. B5 produces a fuller, warmer, and more balanced sound because of its larger 5.25-inch woofer. The B4 with its 4-inch woofer, sounds tighter and more articulate in the midrange.

Can the B5 speaker be placed horizontally? That is with the largest dimension horizintal. Does the tweeter waveguide have any influence on the placement?
A shopper
on Dec 31, 2025
BEST ANSWER: Hi, the Monolith B5 can be placed horizontally but it is strongly recommended to place it vertically for optimal sound performance, especially for critical listening. The tweeter waveguide has a decisive influence on placement. It is engineered for vertical orientation.

Bookshelf speakers exceed expectations
I wanted some bookshelf speakers for a small workroom environment and came across these on sale. My experience with Monoprice quality and from the specs and reviews I decided to purchase them.
I could not be more pleased with these guys. High frequencies are projected with no harshness, the midrange is strong, and the low end does not disappear. These alone would be a great set for someone getting started, a student in an apartment or dorm, or as expansions toward a surround sound system. Add a small subwoofer and you are set. I tested them out in great room of my home. The room is 30x25 feet and has a vaulted ceiling. The speakers had no trouble filling the room with enjoyable sound..
AND, on sale they are a steal. If you are looking for small, versatile, quality speakers, get these. You will not be disappointed.

Rattles and woofs under certain frequencies
It's hard for me to recommend, as I am using these as the surrounds for my 5.1.4 system. One of the speakers, under certain frequencies, has an audible rattle coming from the speaker. Then during scenes where lows are put on the rear (looking at you Dune 2), you can hear the port make an very loud audible wooshing sound.

Punchy Bass and excellent sound stage
I compared them with a pair of Sony SSCS5s that I'm using in my office with a Denon AVR as the FL & FR before I mounted them on the walls in my family room (screw into the back wood panel and make them nonreturnable). These are quite comparable to the Sonys with deep bass and being not too bright. I was pleasantly surprised.
Next I mounted them on the walls as side surrounds in my Family room 5.1 setup. I use the setup with the TV and for Karaoke parties. These speakers replaced a pair of Heralds (Royd Audio Speakers UK) and the difference was day and night. Well-toned mids and highs. I have a dedicated SVS sub so I set the LFE at 120Hz but these speakers can pull above their weight in a non-sub setup.
Each speaker comes in its own box, well-packed and in a cloth bag. The cloth bag seems excessive because it just creates a lot of waste for the landfill.
Still in the break-in period but for the price, the quality and finish is excellent.
I added photos of 2 different mounts as I see Qs about mounting them on a wall.
